(2018) S.C.I.N.I. Power Converter
Custom power supply enclosure for a long range tethered ROV known as the SCINI (Submersible Capable of under Ice Navigation and Imaging). This ROV was developed for exploring below the sea ice in Antarctica. AC power was sent through the tether to an AC-DC converter before being sent to the ROV which needs DC power. AC-DC converters create a lot of heat, which can build up in the enclosure even in a cold ocean environment. To improve heat transfer, we developed a tray system that threads into the main housing to allow the maximum surface contact between the converter and the outside environment.
(2019) Blackfin
Designed around the Red Komodo 6K Camera and a Canon 15-35 Lens. This housing was fitted with external fins that allow it to be towed in a straight line through the water to capture images of fast moving sealife. Commissioned by David Reichart Director of Photography for Deadliest Catch.
(2020) NBA Cam
Used to film the 2020 NBA playoffs, Media-Monks requested an impact safe housing for the Z-Cam E2 with a 180-degree lens for live broadcast during the Covid-19 quarantine.
(2021) USGS Diver Survey Scooter
Contracted by the USGS, the personal diving survey tool incorporates many technologies into one battery powered unit. Integrated into the design is a stereo camera system for creating real-time depth maps, a high-resolution color camera for color overlay over depth maps, standalone sensing, computing, and onboard power. A mounted diving scooter at the rear, combined with carefully balanced buoyancy, allows divers to maneuver the mobile survey lab in small bodies of water.
(2019) MBARI Stereo
Our project goal was to create an enclosure that would allow live 3D cinematic video capture, rendered to a virtual reality headset in real time for ROV pilot situational awareness. Protecting stereo video equipment at 4000M required a titanium housing and chemically strengthened glass dome ports. Designed in partnership with Blue Ring Imaging, an industry leader in underwater VR technology and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. MBARI recently recovered a Mammoth Tusk off the coast of California.
